Chatswood is the rare suburb with two major shopping centres facing each other across the station — Chatswood Chase and Westfield Chatswood, barely 400 metres apart. Locals use both, but for different jobs. Here's how to decide which way to turn out of the station.
Chatswood Chase — the upmarket one
On Anderson Street, the Chase is the more polished, fashion-forward centre. A recent redevelopment has leaned it further upmarket, with premium fashion, beauty and a strong dining line-up. Come here for a considered shop, a nice lunch, and a calmer, more boutique feel.
Best for: fashion, beauty, gifts, a relaxed browse, premium dining.
Westfield Chatswood — the everything one
Sitting right over the station, Westfield is the bigger, busier all-rounder — department stores, electronics, fast fashion, a huge food level and a cinema. If you need to get a lot done in one trip (or entertain the kids), this is the workhorse.
Best for: department stores, tech, everyday shopping, a cinema trip, the food court.
The local move? Do both. They're a five-minute walk apart along the Victoria Avenue mall — Chase for the nice stuff, Westfield for everything else.
Don't forget what's in between
The stretch of Victoria Avenue linking the two is half the fun: the Mandarin Centre for Asian groceries and K-beauty, The Concourse for dining and culture, and — on Thursdays and Fridays — the Chatswood Mall Markets with street-food stalls. Full rundown in our shopping guide.
Quick verdict
- Short on time / one specific buy? Westfield, straight off the train.
- Fashion, beauty or a treat? The Chase.
- A proper day of it? Both, with lunch in between — and bubble tea for the walk.
